  • It's with a Heavy Heart.

It's with a "Heavy Hart" that today I must inform the Fly The Road members and readers that I will be stopping the Design and Development work on my Sweet Tilting trike project. With the election results and the upcoming burden that will be placed on all businesses both old and new it makes absolutely no sense to peruse a new venture. Three of my planned venders who have all been in buisness for over forty years have planned on retiring if the election went the way it did. They to can't live with the proposed plans of the present administration when it comes to new regulations and additional taxes being levied on small buisness relating to the heather care for employees. All of them like myself have worked for a lifetime and will spend the rest of their days traveling and playing golf. I've been asked at times to write about my experiences and times in the US Army 5Th Special Forces Group (Airborne) RVN in the 1960's and about my long racing career that took me all over North America for almost two decades. So that's a direction that I'm looking at.

Those of us that have been producing products and jobs for over forty years feel that the burdens being placed on us are out of balance while those that produce nothing only have to stand in line and in turn receive the fruits of our hard earned labor. This movement took years to flourish for those on the "Left" and in doing so have placed us "The Producers" in buisness jeopardy. For this reason I will not longer follow my Entrepreneurial dreams but rather retire to a more quite life.

I would like to thank Derwin for the generosity shown in giving me a space on The Fly The Road Club site, but at this time my space could better be served being given to someone else.

    Respectfully Yours,

    Johnny Sweet

    Don't Give-Up!

I received the above message by email this morning from Johnny, and came here to post an announcement when I found found that he posted this message to the forum.

Well, here is the response I sent Johnny....

Johnny..... I just received your email, and I can truly feel your pain. It was a demoralizing and depressing evening last night watching Mitt Romney lose, and Obama win re-election (if you were a Romney supporter). So much was truly riding on this election. But that said, our brightest days are still ahead of us.

One thing that I have learned over the years is that NO PRESIDENT can make me succeed, and no president can KEEP me from succeeding if this is what I truly have in my heart and soul. Our success and/or failure is dependent on our own efforts, not on some politician in Washington, democrat or republican. We are the ones who determine our own destiny.

I recall when Clinton was re-elected 15 or so years ago, everybody thought it would be the “end of the world”.. well, it wasn’t. I also recall around 30 years ago when all of the democrats were saying Ronald Reagan would destroy medicare and social security... well, he didn’t! American goes through cycles, and this is just another cycle where the democrats, along with their philosophy, has obtained the upper hand. But it by no means points to the end of our great country as we know it. To the contrary, it means that our republic is stronger than ever.. and it is far stronger than any one president and his agenda.

So, Johnny, please reconsider. We need you active. The country needs men like you to continue to strive for your dreams, regardless of what may seem to be insurmountable barriers in the way. Because, when it is all said and done, we control our own destiny, and we can shape the future of not only our own lives, but also that of this entire wonderful country. Please don’t give up.

    Sincerely,

    Derwin

      Johnny,

As a fellow business owner, I certainly feel your pain. I wasn't expecting last night's outcome and as a result, have been in a deep funk all day. If I may, I'd just ask you to sit on this decision for a while before pulling the plug. I know many of us are happy & encouraged by your efforts on this project. You have a small group of folks here that sincerely hope you persevere. Thanks.

I feel your pain too! (What is wrong with this country?)....anyways, do this project for yourself. It dosn't have to be a business venture, just a hobby so you can have some fun.

I agree with Mike. If you feel that strongly about the business aspects being dim, then DO THIS FOR YOURSELF! Have fun, and most of all... POST ALL YOUR PROGRESS HERE! LOL

Seriously, though, you should not give up simply because Obama got re-elected. There are around 57 million people in America who feel the exact same way as you, but they have to continue on and go for their dreams despite what may be going on politically. Believe me, this is not the end of America. Obama was not elected King. There is a republican congress that will not pass legislation that will harm businesses.

So please... relax. Sit back, light up a premium cigar, and make yourself feel good about this country again, along with this countries prospects for the future.

As Ayn Rand foresaw in 'Atlas Shrugged', many of the producing dreamers are going to disappear from the market place (Who's John Galt?) as the takers make unrealistic demands on the creators/producers. It may take another 12 months before the effects of these 'taker policies' are manifest sufficiently to create the atmosphere needed to cause this migration to the 'Gulch' (out of the marketplace), but I believe that if/when this happens, it will throw our economy and deficit beyond correction like Greece, Spain, etc. I suggest that all plan accordingly.

I suspect you are correct, but I sincerely hope you are wrong.

Dear John, I am new to this site. I know little of it except that I found threads talking about building prototypes and I knew I wanted to get involved. I have been following the Carver for years and want to be involved in its design in the worst way. there is a Title format above these posts that I guess you can give yourself? I want mine to read Boss... and the next post I want you to read is YOUR FIRED ! that is all go away now...

                Disrespectfully speaking,

Its been three weeks since the election, and I wonder if we will ever hear back from Johnny Sweet, and his "Sweet Tilter". Also I wonder if his three planned vendors, did in fact, retire and go out of business due to the election results. It seems sort of short-sighted to abandon all the time, effort, and money that went into this promising project, just on the speculation of potential negative future problems with the economy. The future, especially economics, is never certain no matter who is in office. Although I am also disappointed with the results, life must go on; and I don't plan to waste the next 4 years.... not that many left for some of us! Come on back, Johnny.... we will struggle along with you.

I also share your sentiments, Funride. I hope he shakes all of that away and get's back working on this project.

Heck, as you said, we may yet get out of this slump even with Obama in office. And, really, if Romney got in office, there was no guarantee that he would have led America economy out. It's all speculation.

4 years is a long time.... Well, not quite as long as it used to be when I was younger! lol Four years was an eternity when I was a teenager or even in my twenties. Now that I'm 47 years old, 4 years isn't so long anymore!

But it's still four years, and we can't simply sit on our hands for this time. I don't have the resources or the ability to put together one of these vehicles, or I would do it. So I truly hope Johnny changes his mind.

We're ALL with you on that, D. I, too, was very disapointed by the election. My work as an assembly tech has been severely impacted already, and the prospects under the Obama policies are abysmal! Most of the work I do is defense related. I didn't vote for the Prez's socialist agenda, and refuse to get on the gravy train, even though it makes for very tough times for me and mine. Johnny's efforts were, and could be again, an inspiration to all of us here. And as you said, it matters not, if the project is commercial or one-off for himself. The excitement is in the doing of it. Ah, Johnny! We hardly knew ye!

This site about tilting three wheelers. Not a political whining site. You have to have a spine to do what you like doing whatever the adversity. Give me a break blaming an election. End of political speak. Let us search for our dream machine.

I agree with every word. First, we really are not a political discussion site. And, yes, we can accomplish anything we dare dream, if we have the desire and means to do it. People have succeeded in good and bad economies, and in democrat and republican administrations.

Personally, I think our friend was just caught up in all of the political hype about the "end of America", and has just been incredibly discouraged by it.

C'mon, fellas, lets get together and discuss the possibilities of unique vehicles, and leave the political discussions to Fox News and MSNBC. Seriously.

I see that some references have been made about Ayan Rand's john galt and the gulch.

from what I'm reading lately, the business migration may happen, but there is a fly in this particular ointment.

there is a lot of development in the shale oil business, in fact its booming. there are reports that the U.S. may be a net importer of oil within 5-10 years. the shale oil deposits is said to be bigger than Saudi Arabia's oil deposits.

basically, this means $$ more going to the treasury to fund his socialist dreams and solve the deficit problem. I understand that he is also sitting on a lot of licenses on mining shale oil.
