I miss Doyle Redland... :-(

Moller's answer is simple. They plan to have that flying car out at least 2 years before pigs fly :-)

Hey, fella's.....Go to Mollers website. He is taking DEPOSITS on the SkyCar. It also states that they are getting FAA aproval next year.

I agree with you though, RAN, they will get that off the ground when pigs fly....well, maybe a week or two earlier! :D

I'll beat you all out ... I have one on order from George Jetson.

In the mean time I'm getting Tony Stark's Ironman prototype suit and a Superman cape for emergencies off of eBay. :p

Derwin... I found his new site a couple months ago.... That thing gets freakier every time I see it. Now it has wings too, lol. They said FCC certification was a year away back in 2002 too. I'm holding out for 1958 Dodge fins!

AZ.... get a Howard Stern nose while you're at it and you'll be a Force to Reckon With!http://i186.photobucket.com/albums/x139/MahBoff/strongbench.gif

Then there is always PAL-V (Personal Air and Land Vehicle). Headed by a 'self made millionaire' (trying to make another by getting investors [suckers] and taking deposits).
http://www.pal-v.com/
There are numerous reasons why this thing (as explained and depicted) will NEVER fly, but......(there's one born every day).

Anyway I don't need one. I have my PAS-V, Personal Air and Sea Vehicle.

C'mon, guys.....Moller was touted as being the "Henry Ford" of a new era of transportation. I remember back around 15 years ago seeing him on Good Morning America saying we would all have one of his skycars in our driveway. Boy, how time "flies"......to bad his skycar won't. :D But I'm still waiting to have one in my driveway. It could happen! ;)

Actually, he has been 'doing it' since 1974, per Wikipedia:

"Criticism

Moller has been claiming to be attempting to build a flying car since 1974, constantly promising delivery dates that are just "around the corner". Each time the deadline approaches, Moller has postponed it.

The only demonstrations approaching flight have been hover tests performed by a Skycar prototype that for insurance reasons was tethered to a crane.

Presales

Moller has been taking refundable deposits on the M400 since 2003. Refund conditions include failure to meet rated performance or failure to obtain US FAA flight certification by December 31, 2005. Since 2003, Moller has slipped the date for FAA flight certification one year each year. As of 2007, Moller's claimed date for FAA certification stands at December 31, 2008.

In October 2006, Moller attempted to auction the only prototype of its M400 model on eBay. It failed to sell. The highest bid was $3,000,100; Dr. Moller reported at the annual meeting of stockholders on October 21, 2006 in Davis, CA that the reserve price had been $3,500,000. A previous attempt in 2003 to sell the M400 via eBay was also unsuccessful."
Selling your 'only prototype' does not sound like someone serious about going into 'production'! And the M400 price is now up to $1mil.
Now this IS a 'long shot'; even if pigs DO FLY.

Rog,

Yeah, I agree. I have been hearing about this guy since I was in High School (long time ago!). His idea was exciting back in the 1980's when I first heard about it, but now it's just depressing. I had such high hopes for this around 20 years ago. His dream was awesome to me, but we can now see that it is just not practical.

Since the attack on America on 911, we will NEVER see a "flying car" like this in everybody's driveway. The risk of crazy people flying them into buildings is just too high, even if Moller DID succeed with the technology.

Yes, my friends, this is one idea that was exciting for its time, but its time has just not come yet. I don't think it ever will, due to the nature of the world. Maybe we will be flying personal jet packs to work a lot sooner than a skycar.

They could have them right after they invent force shields!:p

Do not forget with the Force Shields/Fields you will need Inertia Dampeners to quell the matter displacement so there is no repercussions. :)

I think I still have the Popular Mechanics issue somewhere with the Moller SkyCar on the cover. It was a loonnnnng time ago!

The way Americans drive, most of em wouldn't make it out of the neighborhood http://i186.photobucket.com/albums/x139/MahBoff/bounce.gif

Dare to dream!

Who's to say what the future holds or promises? I betcha anything it's caught Ian's imagination to fly the sky in a VV made craft.

I hear tell, " when true vision meets paradigm, paradigm always blinks first".

Everyone's entitled to 'DREAM', but when you try to make it 'REALITY' against the laws of physics and nature; you may end up with a 'NIGHTMARE'!

Neil Armstrong's first " ... giant leap for mankind" on the moon less than mere 4 decades ago was a visionary's dream.

Reality, dream, nightmare ... mere phases of man's unmitigated and inexorable march to evolve.

If you dream it ... It can become reality... The question to ask yourself ... "Is it the right thing to make real?" (must comply to laws of the universe of course)

LOL, 38 years, 3 months and 17 days ago. I was awake and watched it as well as did most Americans and a lot of others did on this planet. I have been a Science (Fiction & Non-Fiction) nut since then.

Darn, a little aged and showing it more as a lot that read this can not remember it or were not even around then.

I remember it well; I was out on the beach (home from college in Colorado) with a transistor radio listening to the "play-by-play". When he said those famous words, I looked up at the afternoon sky, and could actually SEE the moon during the day, really 'spooky'.

Great idea, think about it though, that's all we need to keep off the snow-packed icy roads out here. =y: A big drawback though, too bad they're so loud.=n:

So it is a bit like a bumber car but what do you expect from flying!!! I mean even todays most advanced fighter jets can't stop on a dime! at least this, once it is stopped can hover! ;)

Jack Willard

A helicopter can hover too. And turn, and stop, and ... But they won't let them on any roads that I know about!
