View Full Version : A Clock That Works

I know this is trite and all. And I know VV isn't in the business of making car radios. But I want a damn clock that shows the correct time!

Seriously. My cell phone, my BlackBerry, and every wall clock I have know what time it is. But my car clock doesn't, and it gets worse with DST. If this is going to be my commuter vehicle, then I want to know at a glance if I'm going to be late.

It shouldn't be that hard, for crying out load. Fort Collins, CO broadcasts an FM time code. You can buy a wall clock at Sam's Club for less than $50 that uses it and never have to reset the time again.

I guess my "wish list" item here is that VV takes the time to include a stereo with a clock that works.

Would you settle for a Swatch in the side pocket? =D;)

Well, if you guys MUST have a clock, it would be nice if it was of the atomic variety...

Great suggestion, an electric vehicle with an 'atomic' clock. A vehicle that can automatically reset its clock after a dead battery/recharge, and always tell the correct time (why didn't I think of that?)
Anyone know if any of the 'high end' autos already have this feature (I don't own one, and won't ever be able to afford a BMW, MB, Lexus, etc), but having it in a $20k Vv would be kewl.;)
Perhaps even a GPS signal to 'update' the clock.

Hey Rog, my new Alpine iDA-X001 (iPod deck) does auto DST.... Maybe I should invent it, I'd be an instant millionaire!!=y::IDEA::p

Well you can see how 'current' I am on audio electronics, don't even own an iPod.=n:

rogwild,

That's what I was thinking, that GPS might be the way to go for having and accurite clock.

Exactly!

That's what prompted me to start this thread in the first place. You can buy one of these (http://www.crosse-technology.com/digital-atomic-clocks.html) for $12. Why can't they make the damn car clock read the atomic time? It's already an FM receiver, for crying out loud.

Not that I want Ian to go out and have a special clock/radio/CD/MP3 player designed for the vehicle. But don't select something with a lame ass time drifting clock in it either.

True MarkT.
But Rog, I thought I was the only one without iPod/GPS.
Rog I had a USED 750 BMW. Nice ride but about $2000 a month to keep on the road and the shop and I shared custody. I am thinking with electric motor and no transmission I would be able to keep the V-1 from the shop more.

TBW, don't have an iPod, but have a wrist mount Garmin Forerunner GPS for running/Trikke, and just got my first AUTO GPS unit (Thanksgiving-Xmas Sale) this year. Fun 'toys' to play with; ACTUALLY helped me to 'navigate' to new location this week!
Back in the '60s my first 'bike' was 'almost' a used BMW while over in Germany, but the base commander 'banned' all motorcycle riding as 'too dangerous'.
Would have LOVED a V-1 to tour around Europe!!!
