View Full Version : Emissions Testing the V-1
I wonder how it'll work taking the V-1 through a state emissions test? If you get there and the battery's fully charged, will you have to spin donuts in the parking lot to get the ICE to come on? :p

Some time back, Ian mentioned that there will be a performance switch, giving you the choice between 'economy', 'normal', and 'sport' modes. I'm basically assuming that these modes will change how aggressively the control software runs the engine to recharge the batteries. Economy would tend to let the batteries discharge the most before starting the engine, while Sport would keep the engine on most of the time. If that didn't work, it's be easy enough to have a maintenance or service test mode that simply ran the engine.
Interestingly, in Atlanta, some Toyota Prius' were failing the emissions test. They didn't meet the required engine idle speed, since they simply turned the engine off during the test.
However, even in places with strict emission testing like Atlanta, motorcycles are exempt, so it won't be a problem until the laws get changed.
I used to live in Atlanta..... they did emissions testing from a tent lol.
Here in AZ, even motorcycles have to go thru emissions tests.
I think it's hilarious that the Prius failed an emissions test... and the reason why it failed.
