View Full Version : Countdown clock!

Hello! I have an idea to create a "CountDown to Flight" clock, and put it at the top of the forum site for all to see.
This clock would countdown the days left until the release of the VV vehicle. I think this would be a good idea for new members. This way they could see the proposed release date without having to scour through a thousand forums and posts.
I was just recently told by a company official that the release date would be around April of 2009. We can go with this, and then adjust it if this date changes.
I was thinking of having some kind of flash graphics in the making of this. What do you all think? If you have ANY ideas, please POST them here! Thanks.

Derwin,
I found this: Dynamic Countdown Script (http://dynamicdrive.com/dynamicindex6/dhtmlcount.htm).
I'm still looking for more.
One more thing, you should be able to build one in the flash header. Check this out Flash Countdown Clock Generator (http://www.jellymuffin.com/generators/flash_countdown/).

Timon,
Thanks for the information. Hey, does that girl come with the clock? I wouldn't mind counting down to her! ;)
Anyway, we can put a V1 graphic in the background, or something like that. I think this will be good. I will wait, though, for you to research out a little more. Maybe you can find something better. Thanks.

Hello! I think the clock looks awkward in some way. Maybe it is too big. I don't know. Maybe some other graphics should be put on each side to make it look even. I don't know.
Please......I NEED YOUR HELP!
This site MUST look professional above all things. I need help in putting this together and making this all look smooth and integrated nicely.
Any ideas and suggestions are welcome. Thanks again.

I hope you don't mind a few suggestions. I made an example with the changes I had.
1. Make the background under the car green - not grey.
2. Make the color of the numbers more orange - used color #f19d30
3. Make the type of both your lines the same - don't mix fonts. I used Optimum on this example.
As for other ideas - maybe make is a little smaller - definately put a grey or white box beside it until you decide what to do with that area.
I changed the slogan - but that is just a whimsical idea.

If it doesn't effect the members access (don't know how many have slow connection or slow computer) ... maybe put a place holder graphic to the side ... eventually replace it with the same size flash of the v1 with a selector for the colors that the v1 will be offered in. (since the new version will be in a week or so I wouldn't spend the time to do it at this time but that is me.) In the mean time it could be a flash photo album of the different renderings switching out in the place holder area.
If too much flash is a concern you could move the timer and the color selector flash to the main page, then the people that this effects could just bypass it.
Just a thought.

Maybe turn the background picture to a more transparent/faded picture and then center the timer in the faded picture (reduced in size also). It could lend to the suggestion as it is faint now but will be bright when it does come.
Should the Clock be on the main page and/or/not in the Forums? Just open thought.

Miracleman89,
At this point I don't think a coulple hours makes a difference! The EXACT day of launch is not even known yet. I have this set for April 1, 2009. I was told by the company that this is when the vehicle will be available. It is obviously a tentative date.
When we get closer to the time, and they acually set an exact day and time, I will update the timer. But, for now, this is a great way to give us a general month and day of the launch.
Thanks for everybodys suggestions. We are still working on this, and will be making revisions and updates as time passes.

Here is my 'very rough' idea for the 'Countdown Clock', but I couldn't get the 'layers' and 'transparencies' to work correctly. Perhaps someone with more 'talent & knowledge' could take the idea and run with it. Got the background photos by 'googling' Shuttle Launch Pictures.

ATTENTION ALL:
I have taken the "Countdown Clock" down. As of now, I just don't know when this vehicle is going to be released and made available to the public. Having a clock with an arbitrary date is just ridiculous to me. When we see more progress at VV, along with a firm date of release, then we will put the clock back up.
If anybody disagrees with this decision, please let me know and post it here. Either way, please let me know what you think (good and bad!). Thanks.

Good Idea Derwin,
They might just lock down out of state purchases when they initially release it also. So those of us that have been following this for awhile will might just be continuing to do so and watching the Californians enjoy it (as a purchased beta trial) long before we do. So it would still not be a total release.:o
Even though it would be a good testimonial/advertisement for them to let us purchase them from out of state.

I think the famous (or infamous) Venture Vehicle Countdown Clock may be making its return appearance very soon. Well, as soon as we get some more detailed and specific information about when it will be released. When it does make it's appearance, it will most likely be in the upper left side of the home page.....Next to the header.

We had a clock, Mark. But then dates started shifting and it became impossible to even guess at a delivery date.
Now days we have an estimate on the completion of the Alpha and Beta models, and a general time frame for the Auto X-Prize "Race Across America" which Venture will be participating in. But still, no solid estimate on when the vehicle will be "coming to a store near you".
Not really blaming Venture for this. New vehicle start-ups are fraught with delays. I think Ian Bruce and company are doing the right thing by keeping dates vague. But it sure makes it hard to keep a countdown clock anywhere close to accurate.
Agree the countdown clock should go. Does not seem to be a point. Has anyone seen a picture or any info from a fabricator, not a salesman, that there is any attempt at building anything past a prototype going on? I tried e-mail to the company but after a month have given up expecting a reply. Now I'm starting to think, if a company can't deliver a reply to e-mail in a month, what are the chance they can deliver a product. Sorry, pretty frustrated today.

.....is any attempt at building anything past a prototype going on?
No, a 'prototype' has to come first; that is why it is called a PROTOTYPE.
First, the ALPHA 'bare-bones' propulsion testbed, then the BETA, a more advanced/refined almost "production ready" model; THEN they can begin PRODUCTION.
You are not alone (in your frustration), many of us have been following the 'progress' (delays) for over 1 1/2 years now.

Crash testing is not required for a three wheel vehicle.
Frankly, crash test simulation is just as accurate. All car companies do it so they don't waste cars, time and money on the real crash tests they are required to go through. Since Venture will not be required to go through crash testing, I hope they elect to forgo it and just run simulations.

There are crash testings and there are crash testings.
If they are not mandatory, you can still design crash zones, controled deformations, break-away joints etc, test them by by yourself and decide if you are happy with results or not.
Where crash testing is mandatory, it is done by third parties that get paid big money for doing it officialy.

You run simulations but at the end of the day even the car companies run a few "Real" tests. I assume that Venture will do the same thing.

I had posted this info back in May, but think it makes sense to post again here given the subject.
In an article about the Zero Motorcycle (http://www.news.com/A-motorcycle-thats-fast%2C-silent-and-green/2100-11389_3-6199962.html), company CEO Damon Danielson mentions that:
Getting a bike certified for street riding is somewhat simple, Danielson added. For Zero to convert a motocross bike into a street machine only requires a few modifications, such as adding turn signals and lights. Safety certification and testing takes about 9 to 12 months and costs about $100,000, he said.
So it's not really "crash testing" for a motorcycle class vehicle per se, but "safety certification" that Venture Vehicles will have to go through. Judging from Danielson's words, I imagine that VV can't start the certification process until the betas are produced, at the absolute earliest. So if we don't see betas built until December, the earliest possible date that the Venture One would get certified would be September of 2009, and that's with a best-case scenario.
Maybe if the countdown clock didn't measure months, days, hours, minutes, and seconds, but only counted down years?
[quote=rogwild;6058]No, a 'prototype' has to come first; that is why it is called a PROTOTYPE.
Thanks for defining PROTOTYPE. That really helped my frustration level a few days ago. Actually I was under the impression that a prototype had been produced. I watched a vedio clip of the vehicle being driven and it was being called a prototype. I know a number of prototypes may be produced prior to finalizing. Common to build a number of versions that later production is based on; which is why they are called prototypes, I know. I think everyone can picture a number of prototype vehicles that never saw the light of day in real use. But in any case the question was answered.

Sorry, Jake, we all get frustrated, waiting on Vv, especially when they announced in their initial radio interview that they planned to have 12 prototype vehicles to test by Sept 2007......and are still working to get their FIRST one running. They did produce a 4-wheel sand rail 'test mule' to check out the propulsion system by the end of last year, but no actual V~1 'prototypes'.
The interview that you mentioned, really got a lot of chatter and 'snickers' when Howard (I believe) referred to a stock Carver One (imported from Europe to demonstrate the 'tilt' technology) as their 'prototype' vehicle. Very BAD choice of words, and I bet their 'strategic partners' at CARVER were not too happy either.

At this point in the game You would think he would want to make sure that all of the people that come to his site see what is really going on, not this procrastination trash!r:a:n:t:2:101
The secret is not to wait. You have to look at the V-1 as a flight of fantasy that may or may not ever come to fruition, and you definitely have to forget Ian's promises 5 sec's after he makes them.
The more I study the PML Flightlink website PML Flightlink.com (http://www.pmlflightlink.com/index.html) the more I think my next vehicle is going to be a Porsche Boxster fitted with in-wheel PML motors and other control systems. They even have their own generators that are so efficient, they allow the use of much smaller ICE's to complete the hybrid architecture (see the links in the News Archive window to the left for more info).
This design is ready NOW (in fact, it was ready two years ago). The V-1? Who knows? The Alpha prototype was supposed to be up and running by the end of May latest. It's now officially the last half of July and we're still waiting to hear.

The problem we ran into in the creation of a "countdown clock", is that we needed some specific "time" to countdown to! As many who have been following this for years already know, there really is no "firm" date. The "release date" keeps getting pushed back.
So, in light of the fact that we really don't have a reliable release date, it's not appropriate (or even possible!) to create a countdown clock. But hopefully this will change soon.

Why would you want to do that? Since when has this company ever kept any date they've ever given???
That would be the time to start the countdown clock, and when it hits zero and there's no release, then we start the count-UP clock. Then we could take bets on how many days, months or even years they're off by. If they had any sense of humor, they could even offer a nice prize to the winner. Assuming they haven't sold off all the furniture and turned off the lights by then.
I've been getting a very "Zap-avellian" vibe from these people for quite some time. If they told me the sky was blue, I'd run outside and check.

His name was used for the soul purpose of referencing an example of what I was refering to! At this time I would like to ask that any further comments with regard to his show be kept to yourself. I say again, This is not a discussion about Keith Olbermann!!!!!)
I hope that the disclaimer keeps things on topic! LOL

OK so this company rarely talks to US.
{ US = individuals that would like to purchase their product. }
So much so that the forums are poorly frequented and interest is definetly waning.
When gas cost almost 2x what it does now, people were very interested, now that it has dropped you would think this company would want to keep it's loyal fan base.
But the fact that they are making no effort to do so makes one wonder how good the customer relations will be after you purchase thier product.
Think about it ..... prior to a sale you will bend over backwards to get that sale, but afterwards you are only concerned with that customer for the word of mouth advertising they will do for you, and for repeat purchases. So if they aren't doing more to win my business then I hate to think what their customer service will be like.

Well, it's true that they have been in stealth mode for this entire past year. But I am thinking (hoping!) that it's because their are substantial things going on "behind the scenes" that are causing this, such as a major reorganization of the entire company. As I've said in a separate thread, I'll be contacting them after the new year to see exactly what's going on, and I'll report back here with anything that I find out.
By the way, Welcome to the Club! wel;co;m;e101))

Welcome to the club jr4jc. The Persu Hybrid could in fact be a "gas guzzler" and I would buy it for the shear driving fun. Although most enthusuasts appreciate the high mpg its not the primary reason to own one. Sadly Persu has lost big customer base numbers and if there is no response to Derwin's request for information in earlt 2010 they lose one more loyal fan, assuming there is no vehicle to be enthusiastic about (Sadly).

Howdy,
I'm one of the folks that keeps a very low level interest and check the forums quite infrequently. I check in about every other month or so and need to dig quite annoyingly deep in forums to discern what the latest is.
What would help me (and folks like me) more than either a count down or count up clock to/since release of info would be a simple and obvious, one-click way to get whatever was the last announcement/reply-to-Derwin from anyone at Persu.

Hello, Ricky! Good to see you checking in with us. And welcome to the club! wel;co;m;e101))
We just installed this new software, and it's taking us some time to figure it all out. But once we do, you should be able to get all of the latest updates by simply going to the "Home" page of the club. Also, on the home page there is always a box on the left side that shows the "latest posts/threads", so you can always see what the latest is by checking that out.
As you can probably tell, there's really no "new" things happening with Persu. I guess we'll just have to keep on waiting to see when/if they get the funding that they need to take this to the next level.
