View Full Version : V1 "Name Game": Round 2

Here is round 2 of the V1 name poll. For those of you who are not familiar with it, Ian Bruce mentioned that VentureOne is a product code name, and will not be the final name of the vehicle. We've taken it on ourselves (with Ian's encouragement) to pick a new name. We have no idea if Venture Vehicles will use the name we choose, this is just for fun.

The first round of the name game can be found here (http://flytheroadclub.com/forums/showthread.php?t=190). I've eliminated everything that had one vote or less to make the list more manageable. I've added a few suggestions that were made along the way.

Have fun and vote for as many names as you like.

Here is my vote! It remains the same! It isn't on the list now but it is still the best! Plus, it has no previous affiliation with another car such as Eagle, Talon, Vector, Razor, Raptor and Tomahawk!

Volatilis: winged, flying / swift, rapid / fleeting, transitory.

That just leaves the Enterprise (a popular ship name), the envy (a phone name), the sabre (kinda like the Buick "LaSabre"), the Venture One (Classic name BTW), the Verto, the Volo, and the Voltair. So I guess we have 7 to choose from.

Forgive me, I am bored at work and couldn't help myself.

But - as stated in an earlier thread - Dodge was marketing the Tomahawk as a sculpture to show off the Viper engine. It did not run, and was not even road legal. So I think Tomahawk is still the best name, as there has never been a vehicle (on the road) with that name.

Once again the tomahawk was a dodge concept and they had a working vehicle!!!! I have not only seen in run but while working for Chrysler corp I was there at a strip when the showed it off!

Also, once you remove all of the previously used names I still like vollatilis (sp) even though it isn't on there because everybody was voting for names that can't be used!

Rapture isn't bad but for me it adds a religious sound that I am not cool with!

Can we use a name that may be taken by some other non-vehicle related product or service? If so, I would vote for "Arpeggio". It's a musical term refering to a sequence of notes of a chord, often in a rising and falling pattern.....I know, I know its pretty obscure but has some relation to the tilt action and its personal 'cause I'm a Jazzbo
flute and EWI player.:)
Rapture, Bliss, Satori, Nirvana, Shakti, Kundalini.....just a state of mind....oh yeah,
Aum Shanti!

Well - I guess if we discount every name that has ever been on any concept (whether it ever came to market as an actual vehicle or not - which running or not, the Tomahawk was never intended to be btw) then we are stuck with names that sound just like most of those being proposed. Not that I have anything against Volatillis or Arpeggio, but I think the name should sound more like "Made and/or designed in America" - not Greece or Italy or sub Saharan Africa for that matter.
Of course - I have not done any looking into the italian concept cars to see how many of those names are no good either.
Well - maybe back to the V1, then I can call mine the "Peenemunde Special". :)

I think the name "Road Rocket" is appropriate.
It doesnt' have the word "fly" in it, but it does ride the road and rockets do fly !!

Hence the name "ROAD ROCKET"

I tried to logically build the name from a basis.

The driver leans into a turn. Is it be more like driving a car or like riding a motorcycle (cycling) http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/cycling (http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/cycling)? And the FlyTheRoad part would be "Flycycling." But the term “cycling” is not accurate because it originally referred to the repeated movement (cycle) of the feet for powering the gears of a bicycle and later used for motorcycles.

Carver describes the Dynamic Vehicle Control (DVC) System as "tilting before cornering" and “banking in corners.” I went to AskJeeves about “Learning To Ride A Bike” and the article “Teaching Kids To Ride” at http://www.sheldonbrown.com/teachride.html (http://www.sheldonbrown.com/teachride.html) reaches a very good point about “the basic skill of balancing on two wheels” from a push-scooter [which includes directing inertia in a turn]. And there may be some people who buy a Vv who have not learned to ride a bicycle! “Tips for Teaching / Learning to Bicycle” at http://www.ibike.org/education/teaching-kids.htm (http://www.ibike.org/education/teaching-kids.htm) says, “Turning is a combination of a little leaning and a very little steering.”

Brainstorming with words like “lean, tilt, bank, balance, swerve” and “steer, turns, navigate, maneuver, travel” to make a phrase like “lean-steer, tilt-steer, bank-steer, tilt-turns” may result a really cool name!

I think the name “X-Stream” and “Extreme” is a play on words that people would like. The X could represent an agile swerve movement and in the Stream of air that you feel. Thanks.

Nothing personal EV com. but I think the X-stream word is way over-used. On my list of least favorites, it is right up there with words that replace F with PH, and S with Z.

Still like the name no matter who has used it before. By stylizing the "e" the "V" and morphing the L to a "1" You not only arrive at a cool name but create a possible nifty badge with EV1 embedded in the script. Love It

They could continue using the code names VentureOne, VentureTwo, VentureThree...similar to X1, X2, X3, then when the vehicle reaches production it becomes V1 Sabre, V2 Lightning, V3 Thunderbolt, V4 Phantom, etc.. using names from previous fighter aircraft that have not been used yet (like the Mustang, unless they reach VentureFiftyone. Then they really would have to make it the V51 Mustang).

I am surprised that all throughout the name game, it's referred to as the V1, yet the name V1 is not in the voting list.

Using this naming scheme, they could then differentiate the trim levels with a letter as in the design discussions.
For example, the V1c or V1d.

I like the simplicity of it. Plus, to me, letters and numbers have a high-tech feel, rather than a name which tries to elicit a feeling of "cool." Besides, names can have positive or negative connotations to different people.

Then, once this goes global (thinking big here), you don't have to worry about translations! Think of the Chevy Nova which was not so popular among the spanish speaking population.
("No va" translates into "It doesn't go" - not a great name for a car).

Most importantly, if they plan to put the name on the back of the vehicle as manufacturers do, there is very limited real estate there for a name.

A short "V1d" would do the job nicely in a very limited amount of space.

VV_me_brah

I completely agree with that. The simplicity of it is what makes it so perfect. Plus it sounds more like a fight jet(F22) which is always cool.

Yep, just another 'waste of time' (thought Ian had a 'high priced marketing firm' to do the 'branding' and that sort of thing). Suppose to have been DONE by the end of last year; just another 'missed milestone'. I think it is just 'Smoke and Mirrors' to keep the peons busy and NOT asking real questions about the REAL ALPHA PROTOTYPE. And what is this BS about possibly changing the Company Name? Just more S&M's!

Quit dicking around and build the thing already!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!

There was a Pontiac clone of the Chevy Nova in the 70's named the Phoenix. I almost died in one.

This is the trouble with trying to find another name. Most are taken. V-1 sounds aggressive and sporty in the vein of RX-7, Z4, etc. It works. It ain't broken. Has the designation V-1 turned anybody here off? I'm 54 years old, and I'm not old enough to remember the V-1 rockets of WWII. I submit to you that nobody who is old enough to be soured by that name is going to be buying one anyway.

I like V1.

I'm virtually the same age as you, RAN. However I did work with a guy who grew up in London in the 1940's and remembers the V-1 rockets vividly... well, at least he remembered vividly the time spent in bomb shelters. Last time I saw him... 3 or 4 years ago, he had just returned from 2 years of sailing around the world. He was planning on going back and may be somewhere in the south Pacific now (sold his house, car, and everything else... bought a boat).

personally I think staying with a Letter/ Number combination is the best way to go, if this is going to stop the GSP ( gas sipping pigs) like the H1 H2 ect. staying with V1 in my opinion is the best. possibly even a VVI (Venture Vehicles 1) roman numerals always sat well with me. and with the green movement what about a "c 1" (california 1) which is where all this green movement is comming from anyways.
just a thought. :)

Well looks like Ian kept us 'busy' with the silly 'Name Game' again for a few weeks, instead of pestering him to provide an UPDATE on the progress (or lack thereof) on the ALPHA. Without providing any further comment or guidance on the FTR Forum as to the names submitted.

But it is now time for the JULY SURPRISE (now or in the next 31 days). I really want to see this 'concept' actually MOVE under its own power. I know there is a LOT to do to get an operational 'prototype', but that was also true when Ian told us last YEAR that they planned to have 12 prototypes by SEPT 2007.

It would make sense for a large automaker like Toyota to purchase VentureOne in order to move this amazing vehicle to Mass Production and Mass Marketing at a faster pace due to the current demain, everyone that see's the V1, wants one!
