My pet peeve.
Exclamations are for strong emotions and emphatic points of view, and should be used sparingly. Indiscriminate use of ALL CAPS, !!!!!!!!, ??????
Everyone should be able to express their statements and opinions without yelling, pretty much most of the time.
My .02 cents.

Since the written work is sort of 'expressionless' without the benefit of voice inflections and facial jestures; I personally think 'spicing' it up is a good thing (I would usually use ALL CAPS, but since you don't like 'SHOUTING' and this forum allows different FONTS, I'll try some).
Not sure who came up with the 'shouting' thing for all caps but it does easily add emphasis (only have to hit the [caps lock]), but I do find posts that are written 'entirely' with CAPS to be boring, since there is no variation.

Agreed, but the All Caps for shouting has been in effect since early BBS days. That is one reason I am glad for the introduction of HTML to Boards/Forums. It gives us alternatives

I too like the options to play around with the size and color of my comments! I just tend to forget I can most of the time!

I basically agree with the reduced shouting rule. Unless someone totally missed the point of your post and you need a way to defend yourself. Using a few strategically placed capitalize words help to defend your postion. Smiley Faces don't always work for me, but I like using the smiley faces more than caps.
Changing the text type and and style is cool too. I enjoy that not everyone posts in the same manner or that would be totally boring!:)
