View Full Version : New Vv "Name Game" poll site: Vote for your favorite name

Hello everyone,

Following up on a discussion thread on the Vv forum, I have created a fairly straightforward poll site where you can vote on your favorite "name" for the new Venture Vehicle.

I've taken all the suggestions from the original forum thread and listed them (alphabetically) on this public poll site.

Your poll's direct link is:

http://www.misterpoll.com:80/polls/314457

To go directly to the current results, use this instead:

http://www.misterpoll.com:80/polls/314457/results

I have also set up this poll so that you can vote for as many of the name suggestions as you would like. (But of course, it will let each unique visitor vote only once, so...

no stuffing the ballot box!:p

Have fun and who knows? Maybe Vv will use the top pick!

Darn, you had me 'pegged'!

Can we go back and 'change' our vote, if a better name is added later?:o
Or if we change our mind?

Rogwild...

Well, I don't think it's possible to change your vote after the fact. I believe the poll site dumps a cookie on your computer once your vote (or some other hidden file). It's presence on your computer keeps you from being able to vote a 2nd time when you visit the poll site.

If you do a full cleaning of your computers cookie and cache files, you might do a work around.

As for wanting to vote on another name, so far no one has suggested anything more. The choices already there are pretty good, methinks! (I'm rooting for "Lean, Mean, Leaning Machine" personally.

Once the numbers build up (which I hope they will), I will probably do a 2nd poll (with vote numbers all rest to zero) of the top 10 vote-getters. Then, the real horse race will begin!

Best,

Tryg

Tryg,

Hello! Is there a way that we can "import" this poll into this club site? We have been talking about starting a poll like this for the club members, but just never got around to it.

People of Earth.....this just in.....over at www.autobloggreen.com they show a 200 mph
aluminum ethanol-powered sports car by Saleen called the s5s "Raptor". Looks more like a 'Vette than a bird of prey or nasty dinosaur. Sorry to dash any hopes, burst any bubbles, etc..... Maybe my suggestion of "Rapture" still has a chance...:)

Nice list, Tryg. ;) I'm pretty sure "Sasquatch" and "Platypus" won't make the short list, but I'm sure you added those just for laughs.

My favorites are:

CROSSBOW
JOUST
PRONTO
RAZOR
SWITCHBACK
VECTOR

Any one of them would look great on the "V1."

Sure there's genius in simplicity, but "V1" is kind of bland to me. It lacks character. It's a lot like the stark alpha-numerical designation so many cars carry today. They have no personality. Names help endear people to their cars. I'd prefer to think of "V1" as a working name until something truly catchy comes along...

Well, I think this is all a mute point anyway, since they have already stated that they are working on a new name, and most likely already have decided on one. I hope it is a snazzy name that everybody will like. I'm sure they used some kind of "focus group" or marketing company to decide on a name.

But I will say one thing....I don't really care WHAT they call it....I just want them to get this thing on the market!

I thought "Sidewinder" would have made a cool name. But someone already uses it. I Googled it and some company called Sidewinder Cycle came up. No surprise, it's a pretty sweet name!

http://www.sidewindercycle.com/

I care what they call the V1 AND I want to see it on the market. Why couldn't WE have been the focus group?

You're probably right, though. They've probably already decided on a name and are going to reveal it around the time they unveil the official prototype.

OK CF, that being said I like SlipStream or Vortex. I also believe we ARE the focus group without actually being aware of it.

Tryg,

Great poll! I think we should actually import this poll so that people can participate in it directly from the club site. I will try to implement this immediately so people can start voting.

For future reference to ALL members.....As a member of this club, YOU are capable of starting ANY kind of poll that you want. As long as it is clean, and relevent to the club, it should be fine. Remember....this is YOUR club. Use it, and have fun!

ok for those who don't seem to be aware of certain things! here goes!

10% (9) Crossbow- This name is already being used by KTM and thus cannot be used!
3% (3) Eagle- is a former company that made vehicles and if I am not mistaken was bought out by Mitsubishi so we can't use it!
16% (15) Evolution- is a name used by mitsubishi to describe their AWD lancer it has been shortened to EVO but I believe the have it trade marked! Once again no dice!
3% (3) I-nterceptor - this is the name of a company that produces carburetors! I am sure they would be thrilled!
4% (4) Mean Green Lean Machine - for starters is to many words and lean machine is the name of a former general motors concept!
5% (5) Nighthawk- is already used on a motorcycle! I believe it was a honda!
2% (2) Nova - yeah I don't see chevy having a big problem with this! seeing as how they produced several Chevy Novas and it is a very popular car to use at race tracks!
32% (29) Raptor- This one has recently fell from grace due to the saleen company producing an new vehicle called the raptor!
12% (11) Razor - is a dodge concept car!
10% (9) Sabre - can you say buick la sabre
7% (7) Talon - this is the name for eagles version of the mitsubishi eclipse
20% (18) Vector - was an american supercar
13% (12) Vortex - this one is used by GM for use on there motors hence the Vortex supercharged engine!

So if my calculations are right this means that over 100 votes are not even valid entries!

One problem with calling it "V1" is that was the name of the infamous "buzzbomb" used by the Germans in WWII. The V stood for Vergeltungswaffe which meant vengeance weapon.

Hello! I just re-created the Venture Vehicle Name Poll so it will appear directly in this thread. Please place your vote again for the name that you like. Also, if you have ideas that are NOT listed in the poll, please post them to this thread, and I will ADD YOUR IDEA to the thread for all to vote on.

Thanks for your participation!

Please add "Dio" (de-eee-oh) to the poll.

Dio is Italian for "god" from which this vehicle is sent and to which I think we all will feel like when driving.

In English, the first glance one might see "duo" implying two. It is a two seater so that can be a positive association.

I can see where this can get unmanageable quickly. Lets say that 50 people submitted 50 different names; without some guidelines (like not voting for your own submission/s) we could end up with 50 names that ALL got 1 VOTE.

Oh, by the way, someone also suggested; "Envy", as in Venture Envy (what everyone ELSE will have when you drive by).

CelticFlyer

And license plates can start with "VNV####", the "#" indicating the number "Envy" built. ;)

Sorry MM. The GM engine is a Vortec (as in vortek) and the supercharger is a Vortech (same pronunciation). By my calcs that leaves Vortex (sorta) open. There is a Vortex Racing...

I like some of the names put forth. There's some real creativity on the part of the membership! While many are obvious, others are arcane or derivative. I wonder how many of them will make the "short list."

I know "V1" is Venture Vehicle's "working name" but does anyone know if they've already settled on one? If not, do you think they'd consider our suggestions?

Derwin
03-29-2008, 10:15 AM
Celtic Flyer..

Hello! Hey, I like your new avatar....very cool!

I really think that Ian and the VV team WILL be looking at our suggestions. In fact, Ian himself even referred to this poll over at the official forum, and directed people to it. He said that they are "keeping an eye on it" and that they may even come up with a poll of their own.

This is all GOOD NEWS for this club!

Thanks, Derwin. Just playing with Photoshop again. ;) It's a hobby, and in part, what I do for a living.

Many of the names on our list reflect forward thinking. Many capture the V1's character, or suggest its capabilities.

It's ironic that some vehicles are named after what they are destroying, at least in part. Take the Toyota Sequoia for instance. (It only gets 13-18 mpg and produces tons of greenhouse gases.) At least we can take some comfort in the fact that they sell so many hybrid models!

Hey, I know it's not on the list, and I really don't care what they name it, as long as I have one in my garage, but how about, 'Venture Enterprise', in honor of 'Star Ship Enterprise', or if you prefer, in honor of the great aircraft carrier, 'USS Enterprise'.

Just my 2 cents.

Rossasaurus

Velo (vay-lo) = veil

Veloce (vay-law-chay) = fast tempo
Venture Veloce

and a variant;
[B]TreVeloce (tre-vay-law-chay) = three fast(not really a word, but sounds good)

Venture TreVeloce

and my favorite: Vive (vee-vay) = lively, animated, full of life

Venture Vive

Man, I can't stop...
ViveVeloce
Venture ViveVeloce - nah, that's a mouthful

Someone also mentioned Volo (Volos, a city in Greece), I like that too.

A couple others:

Venture Sceptre(Scepter)
Venture Evo
Venture Grail

Liked the idea of the rolling-poll; filter-out and add new names, at least for a while.

cheers,
Ross

I'll do that this weekend. What I'm going to do is close this thread, so it will be here with our comments but no one can add to it. I'll start a new thread with everything that got more than X votes (haven't decided yet, but want to make the list manageable). I also want to thank you for all the work - this site really helps relieve a boring day at work where I can sneak in between documents!

You might also want to consider culling names that have been identified as being used in other vehicles, and would have no chance of actually making it to trademark.
