Maui! Beautiful state you've got there. I spent a wonderful week over on the big island a while back. Great place for a V1 with the windows down.

Hawaii, hmm. It makes me think... want to start a rental car company with me that rents only Venture Ones? Perfect match for Hawaii; clean, quiet, great gas mileage, accommodates couples, and fun to drive through winding roads.

Bikers Inc

Hi there everyone. Just wanted to drop a note as well after the warm welcome and great company. We are a magazine called Bikers Inc based in Singapore and we report on anything and everything that matters to a biker - from man to machine. We were very intrigued by the concept of a hybrid vehicle and we consequently decided to run a cover story on the CarverOne for our inaugural issue.

It has turned out to be a hit and we are currently fighting for such hybrid vehicles to be classified as a motorcycle rather than a car so that costs can be reduced and licencing requirements can include more of the population.

We are hoping to include a follow-up article on the VentureOne when the time is right and I'll be sure to keep all of you posted when that happens. It's great to have met all of you and we'll be reading this forum regularly to be updated on the latest developments and to also learn from the experience of so many of you.

Thank you for having us on board and we look forward to many an involved dialogue...

Hi there, Ed. Mind if I call you Ed? It's so much less formal than Editor.

Of course you are welcome here, and I'm sure we are all excited about having a member from the media. But I couldn't tell from your posting if you've found the Venture Vehicles official site (http://www.flytheroad.com/) yet. If not, check it out. And try to get in contact with Ian Bruce, the CEO. He just loves to give interviews.

Bikers Inc

Actually, the sequence of events was finding the original corporate site of VentureOne via Google search first, then using one of the initial design pictures from that website to include in our blog post, then Ian dropping us a comment on our blog to link to a thread on this forum.

At that stage, I requested to use the pictures from the thread and was referred back to Ian/Rick to make an official query (it is here that I realised the difference - 'flytheroad' vs 'flytheroadclub').

Well, they have requested us to hold back till further developments, so we will be waiting for the right time to showcase the VentureOne developments at our end.

Thanks Derwin.

Actually, it's one daughter, one son, one daughter-in-law, four grand-kids, and another grand-kid on the way.

My wife and I did have another son, but he died at the age of 15 in 1992 after being struck by a hit and run driver. His name was Brandon James Hicks.

They caught the driver, he served 7 years of a 4 to 10 year sentence.

My wife and I have endured, and stayed together, mainly because of a good support system from friends and family, but mainly through the grace of God.

And through the grace of God, and support from our church family at Living Water Worship Center in Spring Valley, Ohio, we able to find it in our hearts to forgive the gentleman that took our sons life.

Enough for now, it's probably more than you wanted to know, but we have now become family through this joint adventure.

See ya on the road.

Bob

bhicks,

You are truly blessed to have a wonderfully close family. This is one thing that money simply cannot buy. Another thing that money can't buy is Faith in God. It can, and does, bring us through problems in our life that otherwise would destroy us. I can't even imagine losing a son to a wreckless driver, and then actually FORGIVING the person that caused the tragedy. This kind of grace can ONLY come from a higher power because in human terms, we would want to seek revenge and punishment. You are really a blessed couple to have such a forgiving spirit.

Thanks again for becoming a member of our little group of enthusiasts.

Hey Derwin.

Just thought I'd let you know that my wife and I are planning a trip to the Emmanuel Bible Church at 6630 Ogden Ave, Berwyn, IL on Monday April 21st. Don't know how close this is to you.

Our reason for being there is because the Christian rock band we are blessed to travel with every now and then, is scheduled to be there. The band is scheduled to start playing at about 8pm. The name of the band is, Dustin Burke Band. Dustin is our worship leader at the church we attend. The lead guitar player is Dustin's father, Jeff Burke. Jeff has been a friend of mine for 22 years, and he's been our pastor for the past 5 years.
This will be the bands 6th time to play at the church since Oct 2006, and this will be my 5th trip with them. They call my wife and I their road parents.

If you want to check them out, they're at www.dustinburkeband.com

Have a great day,

Hello Derwin and bhicks,

It's good to know we have some good Christian folks on this board. Thanks for the link to the band, I enjoyed that.

We are members of a new church called River City Bible Church here in Jax, and it appears that we are about to be blessed with a new facility via a merge with another local church. Thus far we have been meeting in a home for the aged that was gracious enough to have us. I am very excited about where things are going and how the Lord is working in our church.

I too have a sort of a link to a Christian rock band. The band is called Jackson Waters, and the singer, David Leonard, is my grandfather's brother's grandson. :-) Both my grandfather and his brother were pastors.

Check 'em out...

Hi Miracleman,
In the Northwest here I run a Formula Mazda at Seattle, Spokane, Portland, with an occasional race at Sears Point, Laguna, Thunderhill. Have also raced at Mid-Ohio, Lime Rock, & Watkins glen.
When I run in grand Am I've done Daytona 24 hr Rolex (12 yrs), & Virginia International.
Only some of all that is televised, but I have done some comercials &
movies ... "professional driver, closed course" :-)
You are from AZ ... I get to the Pheonix track occasionally, stay with a friend in Fountain Hills

MVRacing
02-22-2008, 01:01 AM
Can't wait to get one out to the local track anf try it out!! All tracks have days where you can "run what you brung", most of the time you have to go thru the local dchool first. Many marque clubs have their own schools after which you can run what ever you want on track days.
As for actual racing ... Until there are enough out there to form a class, what would we race against :-)

Hi Heraclid,
I started doing solo in a vette back in southern Illinois in 89.
Wouldn't class myself as a pro since I don't get paid for racing, but do make enough thru coaching & race car prep to cover my costs ... most of the time :-)

Hey MVRacing,

I miss it, haven't done it in a few years actually, since the closer site to me went inactive. We just did most of the rallycrossing on some property of a friend of mine in Ft. Meade, FL. Unfortunately, some participants would not behave themselves on the road in and out of there, so we had to stop using the site. That would get quite rutted up and half the time only the AWD vehicles were competitive. Got some glow sticks and had a night one there once, which was pretty fun. We had a few events at Homestead, in an old gravel RV parking lot next to the raceway. That was much different, much faster, much easier to break loose the rear end for sure! Once Ft. Meade was out (already a 4 hr drive from here), I just couldn't keep going all the way down to Homestead all the time. I think the most fun though was an event in Starke, FL at the European Rally School there. That was more like a stage of WRC. The stage had a section of tight hairpins in the woods, kinda sandy, one part was a nice KART track, and one section was an old airstrip with some loose gravel on it and heaps of asphalt chucks to avoid. It was a lot of fun, but the riskiest too (a Subaru wagon flipped, much higher speeds reached, real risk of ending up in a tree or ditch).

We didn't have a lot of rules - had a SCCA guy supervising, wear an approved helmet, cursory mechanical inspection, some safety measures for course workers, no convertibles. My friend who owns the land raced an Isuzu Vehicross, and so did I. We were up against some WRX's, had an Opel GT out there, etc., but the twisty nature of it keeps the speeds down and it is more about handling, so the Isuzus were competitive. My friend was winning one time over a field of about 30 before he got a flat and couldn't get it right by the next round. Alot of people aired down their tires, but I always aired up for that reason - sand and stuff would get in the bead and you'd get flats if you lowered your pressures. Pretty amateur, but lots of fun, best I ever did was 3rd.

One of our folks has moved up to the next level and has been on a Subaru magazine cover and all. Joanna Balsamo, she's out in CA now, did Pike's Peak, etc. Black WRX STi. Used to be at imprezagirl.com, can't get it to load right now though.

Other than that, did some off-roading at Uwharrie in NC and Juniper Springs here in FL.

Check out our old Rally Rebels site too...

Hi Herclid,
I've worked a few pro rallys for the NW Region SCCA ... brave folks! Not that I wouldn't love to try the BAJA or Pikes peak, but I think I prefer smooth pavement under my slicks.
Did my dirt thing when I was younger (& more flexible) on two wheels. Kind of like having a full cage & 6 point belt system now. Matter of fact, that is probably the first upgrade I will do to the Vv before heading to the track for some test days.
Enjoyed the first video, but couldn't get the second to load.

Heraclid

I agree - surely it is going to have some ergonomic, cradle-type seats and a harness straight from the factory (?)

Would love to do Baja... had an Isuzu Vehicross do quite well in one of those, and in several Asian rallies. One did Dakar but took a lot of damage and did not even finish. My friend did La Carrera Panamericana down in Mexico one year in a Jaguar D-type, and he does some TSD rallies (time, speed, distance... sort of like a scavenger hunt format)... would like to do one with him some time. But not only did the sport's venues get further away, but it's my daily driver now, so I have to be more laid-back. :-) I like knowing I can do some pretty challenging off-roading if needed, but I did it and got that out of my system now - cleanup was not real fun, mud EVERYWHERE. I wouldn't get crazy with the Venture One at all. I'd have my fun, but I'd really baby it too... it's a dream machine for me. And would probably be a real collectible (but would never sell). One of those vehicles the wife starts to get jealous of. LOL!

Miracleman89,
Hey, definitely... I look forward to it! It is going to be a mighty surreal experience to have one of these. Caravaning with another V1 would be awesome - you can't see yourself driving it around, but you'd get to watch another one drive around with you, see how great that looks, and realize, hey, that's what it looks like when I cruise around too. I'll have to be careful around buildings with mirror-like exteriors - I'll be tempted to stare at my own vehicle!

Satt,
The reason I asked was because we had some Satterfields here who my parents bought some property from when I was real little, and that's where I grew up and where my parents still live. The Satterfields still had a large tract of land behind us - there was justa barbed wire fence, horses, a big barn... they had this really cool dog, we got a cat from them... they moved to Montana but I hear Kenny may be back in town (childhood pal). Anyway, we liked it better when they were there than when they put 44 houses where they used to be!

Just an update! I just bought a Toyota Mr2! It needs a little work.(IE. rims, tires and a new front bumper) Other then that it is in great shape! The front bumper needs to be replaced because they bottomed out going over a speed bump and broke the bottom fairing on the front bumper. The rims and tires are necessary because the idiot that had it never paid the owner for the car and started selling parts off it for drugs! (he is now rotting in jail! LOL) Anyway got a heck of a deal on it! I paid $550.00 for it!=D

Wow! That's a steal! Congratulations and good luck with that. I test drove one of those a few years ago with a friend and it was a lot of fun. Definitely gives you a sports car feel. Maybe it'll help acclimate you for the V1!

Trust me!!! I am already acclimated for the V1! ;) I was raised up around motorcycles and up until 2 years ago I had a Ford Mustang with a lot of performance parts! God I miss that car!!! I sold it along with my triple white VW Cabriolet Wolfsburg Edition to pay for the move out here to AZ! I didn't want to sell the Mustang but the oil pump was going out and I knew it wouldn't make the trip and I didn't have the money to spend at that point to get it fixed so I had to sell it! God that sucked, but I am very happy were I live now!

Miracleman89, congrats on the MR2! I've always loved 'em too. I really like the '91-'95 styling. Used to be on a MR2 forum for a bit and was serious about possibly getting one - I wanted a yellow Turbo some kinda bad. They look just as good today as they ever did, not a dated look like so many cars. Gotta love the mid-engine design and all. As far as I'm concerned, one of the coolest little cars ever made.

Since, a couple of you seem interested I thought I would show you the car! remember it needs some work! it has been sitting for about a year in the Arizona desert without so much as a bath! The front bumper is broken as you will see because they hit a speed bump and broke it. plus it needs rims and tire like I had mentioned before! Just remember I only paid $550.00 for it! Forgot to mention it is a 1991 Mr2

Hi MM,

I think you'll have more problems than just fixing the front bumper. From the state of the engine I'd be stripping that baby down before trying to crank it over. At least you'll have something to do in you're spare time until you get the V1.

Good luck, you'll need it!!!!:confused::LOL:

Regards,

Charles

In the words of John Candy from Planes, Trains and Automobiles, "That'll buff right out!" ;)

It presents a challenge, but I think it can be fixed up rather easily. Once the front bumper is replaced and it's sitting on all fours, you'll be halfway there. Aside from the obvious body work that requires attention, it appears that the only thing it needs is a good scrubbing and a little TLC. I still think you got it for a great price!

Enjoy bringing her back. It'll look GREAT when you're through.

One question: I noticed the air scoop poking out over the roof. Did the MR2s have cooling issues like the Pontiac Fiero? Or was it just to supplement the factory-engineered cooling?

RAN
03-14-2008, 11:31 AM
Assuming the drivetrain has simply been neglected and not abused, it shouldn't take much to bring it back. It really depends on how long a time the guy was cannibalizing it and skipping payments before he got busted. I'm sure he wasn't spending any money on oil changes, for instance. I would just worry that since this one has what looks like high performance options on it, the engine hasn't seen a lot of redline without those oil changes.

Still, assuming it runs, you did get it for a good price. I've never seen one with the engine scoop.

Miracleman89
03-14-2008, 01:07 PM
Well the engine bay is really just dirty! All of the fluids look good, the motor oil smell a bit burnt but not near as bad as some I have seen! I use to work in a tire lube express! When you grab the belts you can turn the motor a bit by hand so the motor isn't seized up! From the looks of things all he managed to sell was the rims and tires! The kid is pretty much an idiot I don't think he even knew how to open the hood! But like I said the oil looks decent and should not have played a factor! From the look of things and by my inspection this is what I will need to do to get it road worthy!

1. Rims and tires -$750.00
2. Oil change - approx. $45.00 ( mobile one)
3. Spark plugs and wire replace -$70.00
4. rotors and go ahead and replace the brake pads - $145.00
5. New Battery -$80.00
6. Replace front bumper -$163.00 (plus $23.00 for paint)

All of this stuff I can easily handle myself, because I have done brakes, tune ups and even worked at a body shop for a year! I am looking at about $1276 dollars to get it looking good and road worthy. (not including soap and water :)) so I am looking at walking away with this car for $1826.00. I will give an update when things get underway but remember I am not a tycoon or anything and I have been going to school so I don't have a whole heck of a lot to just dish out on it.Up until recently I have been working part time as a police dispatcher ( I am working full time right now) and we don't make a bunch of money! So fixing it up will be a slow process but I plan to devote every spare dollar I can manage! I will post pictures of my progress as it comes so be patient! I mainly said that for my own patience will be tested!

btw celtic that is a ram air intake on the mr2!

Yes, I'm just north of Austin. Technically I'm still living in Pflugervile, also just north of Austin, but the house my wife and I are moving to this summer will be in Round Rock. I've already talked with the builder about installing 2 extra outlets in the garage for plugging in my future VV and another plug-in hybrid (4-seater) for down the line.

Maybe I can see about digging up some info about EEStor after I move up there, too. Cedar Park is just west of Round Rock, hehe.

Welcome Jay!

Derwin, the "spyder" denotes a convertible in some car circles, just like "cabriolet" does in others. It's not actually the name of the car, any more than the words sedan or coupe are coming after, say the words "BMW 328." Many Italian cars use the term too, though they sometimes spell it "spider."

I think what Jay actually has is a Mitsubishi Eclipse Spyder.

Actually, after a few weeks of sunshine and 40-50 degree weather, virtually ALL snow has disappeared. That is until 2 and a half hours ago. Now there is 3 inches outside and more on the way....about another 32 hrs coming.

Think I can get a snowmachine ski on the front?

Well met AKP23!

Native Texan I see, whereabouts? I'm not a native Texan myself, but I got here as fast as I could (old TX joke).

You're actually not the first to ask about ski adaptations for the V1, think there's been more than one thread started on that in the Official forums. More likely anything incorporating that will be after-market initially. Unlike the front wheel, a ski would need to remain level with the ground and can't tilt with the body or will need it's own axis to maintain ground contact.

Hi everybody! My name is Randy Hyman, my sign on is "Gunner". I live in Dallas, TX with my wife, and work as a manager at Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control. Next year is my last year before I retire and start really counting the days till I can fly the roads. I think this is great! I've enjoyed reading about everyone, we have an excellent cross section of America don't we?

When I retire I hope to play with art and investments. In art I like painting, sculpting and even making things out of polyclay. For investments I play with stocks, ETF's, Mutual Funds and Foreign Exchange. My kids are grown and gone. My son works for a foreign exchange as an executive and my daughter and son-in-law are youth ministers back home in Arkansas.

I designed a three wheeled vehicle that leans in the turns when I was in high school and always wanted to build it but never did. I still have the clay model though so the dream isn't completely dead. I just think buying one will be easier.

:whoohoo:

Let's all hang in there, it's gonna happen.

I don't know if I did this right. Not too computer savvy, remember I grew up with a slide rule. 1967 I believe was when I made it, looks it too with all the dings. Seems it and I have a lot in common these days.

If it didn't turn out let me know what I should have done.

Gunner,

What were you trying to do? If you were trying to upload documents, it won't work. But you can send them to me directly at this email:

derwin@flytheroadclub.com

If you send me the documents, I can then upload them to the club server so everybody can see them.

Gunner,

I received the word documents from you, and below are the 2 photos that you sent.

To post photos to this forum, all you need to do is upload the actual jpg or gif files. Don't use word or any other program like that.

By the way, that looks like a very interesting design. Do you have any other pictures or diagrams?

Anyway, if you have anything else, just let me know.

Thanks for the help Derwin, I appreciate it. I tried to copy and paste the .jpg but it didn't work.

Thanks again for the help and the interest, you've made my day bringing a memory back to life. You have a great club going, hope we can all be flying the roads together some day.

Hey, it looks like I did it this time, the picture is in there.

Yeah, it's fun to remember what might have been. Looks like there are a lot of new ideas about to come to fruition in the next year or two. Can't wait to see what happens. I'm a little disturbed the way the Persu people seem to be retreating from communication, maybe some of you guys will be able to get the goods from them and post it for the club.

The club is in direct communication with Persu Mobility, and we will be posting information to this site whenever we get anything from them.

Scot has promised to give the club a "heads-up" on any new developments, so I guess we just have to wait and see what happens.
